PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Director of Parish Catechesis is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of initial and on-going education and faith formation programs and processes for adults, families, children and youth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1.To work in collaboration with the parish pastoral team in realizing the spiritual formation goals of the parish and the Diocese of Cleveland.
2.To report to and consult with the pastor, parish staff, and parish pastoral council regarding the catechesis of children and youth with a focus on primary grades Pre-School-5th.
3.To assess catechetical needs, plan, design, implement and evaluate with the parish staff a comprehensive vision for parish catechetical programs for adults, families, children and youth.
4.To recruit catechists and other volunteers and provide for their training, ongoing development, supervision and evaluation.
5.To develop and monitor, in consultation with the pastor, the catechetical budget for the parish.
6.To develop an annual calendar of meetings, catechetical sessions, and special events in consultation with the pastoral team.
7.To evaluate and modify parish catechetical programs in collaboration with the pastor to reflect changing needs.
8.To organize, direct, supervise and create a planning team for Vacation Bible School.
9.To organize and implement preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Baptismal catechesis for post-infant and students with Special Needs.
10.To maintain those parish records determined necessary by the pastor and diocesan policy.
11.To research, review, and purchase appropriate texts and supplementary materials.
12.To organize, supervise and maintain the catechetical office.
13.To direct, supervise and evaluate religious education office staff/personnel in consultation with the pastor.
14.To assure compliance with the Diocesan Child Protection policies and programs for children, catechists and parents.
15.To reflect the vision of the Universal Church in the focus of this office.
16.To perform other duties related to catechesis and faith formation at the request of the pastor.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Facilitating Sacraments and Special Events including Baptisms, School Masses, Parish Missions, May Crowning, and other liturgies as needed.
2.To attend parish pastoral council meetings and other parish-related meetings required by the pastor.
3.Other duties as requested
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.A strong appreciation for the life and mission of the parish.
2.A practicing Catholic with a strong commitment to the philosophy of total Catholic education and spiritual formation.
3.Masters Degree in Religious Education, Theology or a related field or completion of the Diocese of Cleveland certification process for Ministry.
4.Experience in administration and catechesis.
5.Supportive of a collaborative model of community leadership in working with pastoral staff and other ministries
6.Be a self-starter and capable of working with little direction
7.Be flexible to organizational change

10.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers
11.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1.Position requires sitting, walking, bending, stooping and talking in an office environment.
2.Position requires computer literacy, familiarity with office equipment and frequent telephone use.
3.Requires extensive sitting, viewing and utilizing computer equipment, keyboarding, listening and speaking in person via the telephone and in person.
4.Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.
5.Position requires familiarity with office equipment
6.Nature of work requires normal color distinction and visual acuity, and normal finger dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1.Work performed in a general office environment.
2.Hours of work may exceed normal business hours. It is a full-time position with flexible hours to accommodate some evening and weekend requirements.
