Position: Visitor Experience Representative
Parttime

Reports to: Parish Manager
General Summary: Under the direction of the Parish Manager, the Visitor Experience Representative is responsible for ensuring pilgrims and visitors to the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine have a positive experience. This position will be collaborating with the Parish Manager to provide, exhibit and leave a memorable impression on all our guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greets visitors/pilgrims with a friendly disposition and hospitable attitude.
- Coordinates to ensure the Cathedral Basilica and Bell Tower Gift Shop are covered at all times from open to close.
- Collaborates with the Parish Manager to develop cyclical programs to support their continuing education.
- Assists the Parish Manager with availability for tours and education programs as needed.
- Monitors care of the Cathedral Basilica and grounds with the Parish Manager and maintenance staff.
- Collaborates with the Cathedral Basilica facilities staff to keep a high level of cleanliness in the Cathedral Basilica space and monitoring climate/environmental conditions.
- Assists the Parish Manager to prepare the Cathedral Basilica for major annual events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A basic understanding of Spanish history as relates to St. Augustine and Florida.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to work well with a variety of people from various backgrounds and cultures. Mature, friendly, good-humored, and service-oriented.
- Effective and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- General computer skills, including proficiency with accessing internet, email and cash register.
- Creativity and orientation towards problem-solving.
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a high level of customer service.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays for events is required.
- Must be able to lift boxes of up to 20 pounds and close facilities as needed.
- Ability to spend more than 50% of the typical workday walking, sitting, and standing.
- Ability to maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Catholic Church.
Qualifications:
- High school degree, history, local history background helpful.
- Knowledge of collections best practices, preventative conservation techniques, environmental control, retail, security, objects/collections insurance and risk management.
- Fluency in Spanish is helpful.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
