POSITION: Career Readiness Instructor and Coach (11th & 12th)
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations, Training, and Credentialing
COMMITMENT: This is year year-round, 12-month position. Saint Martin de Porres High School is seeking a Career Readiness Instructor and Coach to be part of an innovative urban Corporate Work Study (CWS) college-prep high school experience.
OUR ORGANIZATION Saint Martin de Porres High School is a Catholic college-preparatory program designed exclusively for students of modest means. Eighty percent of our students will be the first in their extended families to go to college. Our rigorous curriculum, which includes students working in a corporate environment, was designed specifically for our school by a committee of prestigious educational leaders. Saint Martin was founded in 2004 and is chartered by the state of Ohio and accredited through the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association. Our mission is to transform urban Cleveland one student at a time and we are committed to the values of work, study, service, leadership and prayer. We are a part of the Cristo Rey Network of schools founded in 2001.
POSITION SUMMARY The Career Readiness Instructor and Coach is responsible for helping Saint Martin students acquire the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to succeed in the workforce and prepare for college. This teaching position is responsible for providing daily instruction to juniors and seniors focusing on soft skills, corporate readiness, technology application, and career planning. As a Career Coach, you will work closely with students on providing career guidance through the use of data, reflective discussion, and college & career goals. This role works collaboratively with the CWS career training team to ensure curriculum is scaffolded and aligned consistently throughout a student's four years. Working alongside the Corporate Work Study team, this individual will be responsible for classroom instruction, career coaching, and project management within the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a general representation of this position's critical duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Classroom Instruction: - Plan, develop, and deliver career readiness lessons for 11th-12th grade students on, but not limited to, career readiness skills, soft skills, technology application, and career planning. - Assign and grade student classwork, homework, tests, and assignments. Provide appropriate feedback on student work to help students improve their skills and career readiness. - Using the outlined Cristo Rey work study standards, develop and implement curriculum map for career readiness course. - Apply relevant technology to the delivery and differentiation of student instruction. - Utilize Google Applications for the following, but not limited to, lesson delivery, student activities, assessment, communication, and calendar management. - Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures and apply effective classroom management strategies. - Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. - Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use data to adjust instructional strategy. - Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, policies and school regulations. Coaching and Mentoring: - Offer one-on-one coaching sessions to guide individuals through the career exploration and job search process. - Assist individuals in developing professional skills and applying best practices when in the workforce. - Visit students in the workforce and provide intervention and enrichment to increase performance and productivity while at work. - Provide strategies to enhance individuals' networking skills, including building and maintaining professional relationships. - Communicate with students, parents, employers, and community members to promote the career training program and its benefits. Continuous Learning: - Stay up-to-date with current industry trends, labor market dynamics, and changes in hiring practices. - Continuously enhance your knowledge of career development strategies and resources. - Work with other instructors, school staff, and community partners to ensure effective delivery of career readiness instruction. Documentation and Reporting: - Maintain accurate records of individual progress, assessments, and coaching sessions. - Prepare regular reports on the success rates and outcomes of your coaching interventions. Career Assessment and Planning: - Conduct thorough assessments of students skills, interests, values, and goals to determine suitable career pathways. - Collaborate with individuals to create personalized career development plans based on their strengths and aspirations. - Help individuals set achievable short-term and long-term career goals. EDUCATION: - Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. - Must have current state teaching certification.
EXPERIENCE: -Experience instruction in career readiness skills and strong understanding of workplace professionalism. -Minimum of one to two years related experience in education. -Candidates should have at least one year of experience working with high school age students in a professional or volunteer setting. -Demonstrated ability to customize instructional support for high school students with a variety of needs and educational backgrounds. -Technological competency: Proficiency with Google Suite/MS Office (or similar) applications, virtual instructional platforms, and collaboration tools. -Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present information clearly, concisely, and accurately; friendly, persuasive speaking and writing style. -Extraordinary customer service orientation. -Well organized - conscientious and thorough with detail. -Ability to use data to make decisions. -Demonstrated experience and understanding of business management and professional business practices.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND TRAITS: -A passion for urban education. -Ability to work with teenagers from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. -Organized with very effective time management skills. -Capable of managing several initiatives simultaneously while working in a fast-paced environment. -Understands the need for and is able to maintain and protect all confidential materials and information. -Strong problem-solving skills. -Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with various audiences including students and parents; corporate sponsors; and colleagues. -Strong team player, able to work closely with CWS team members, faculty and staff. -Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Interdisciplinary background with ability to teach across multiple disciplines aligned programs. -Experience applying social and emotional learning strategies with high school learners.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: -Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
