Description
St. Thomas More’s Magnificat Women’s Choir has been singing at the 8:30 am Mass for almost 20 years. We are searching for a talented director to lead this group who has the ability to make beautiful music, a love for prayer and a desire to become a part of an exceptional community of women.
Reports to: Director of Music Ministry
Hours and Pay: Part-time, hourly exempt (5 hours/week)
- Weekly Monday evening rehearsals 6:45 prayer time; 7-8:30 pm rehearsal (September through May)
- Sunday 8:30 am Mass, typically three Sundays/month (End of September through end of May) with 7:45 am pre-Mass rehearsal.
- 4 pm Mass on Christmas Eve Mass and 8:30 am Mass on Easter Sunday
Essential Duties:
1) Prepare Mass plans and music in a timely manner for rehearsals and Masses
2) Attend meetings with Director of Music Ministry, as needed
3) Select, purchase and copy music for the choir within budget
4) Send Mass plans to accompanist and AV for PowerPoint preparation
5) Select and train new cantors from the choir on proper cantor procedures at STM
6) Attend STM Ministry Fair, Newcomer’s breakfast or other means to recruit new members
7) Maintain a sense of faith and fellowship among choir members through prayer time at rehearsal, staying in contact with members via email or phone.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements: Visual acuity both near and far, manual dexterity with good eye/hand coordination, good hearing, and speech; ability to sit for extended periods; standing walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, lifting, and squatting as necessary to perform the duties of the position; ability to lift/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Music degree preferred. Choir directing experience preferred.
Have a positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work.
Refrain from public promotion or approval of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the parish, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.
