Position Description
St. Patrick Catholic School in Corpus Christi is seeking exceptional individuals for the following position: Substitute Teacher. St. Patrick Catholic School provides a beautiful education teaching the “whole child” through an outstanding academic program, spiritual formation, athletics, fine arts, and extracurricular activities. Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church ("the Diocese") entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:
- As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Provide instructional support and classroom management to students in the absence of the teacher of record for assigned classes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 12 credit hours in education; valid state certification preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Certified applicants receive priority and retired teachers are encouraged to apply.
- Teachers of Religion must fulfill TCCB ED 150 hours minimum requirements.
- Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction.
- Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process.
- Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format.
- Skill in using job-appropriate technology.
- Skill in critical thinking and planning.
- Skill in demonstrating professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Skill in collaborating with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
- Ability to manage student behavior in a classroom setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
- Ability to work well with others in the school community.
- Ability to conference with parents upon request and respond to messages in a timely manner.
- Ability to demonstrate gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals.
- Ability to respond to individual learning needs.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Submit to employment required screenings, criminal background, drug screening, and MVR
- Obtain certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures
