Basic Function:
Under administrative supervision, coordinate and implement food preparation and kitchen services and activities. Order food and supplies, prepare related documentation, monitor and evaluate provided services. In certain program locations, may be required to supervise assigned clients/volunteers in food service activities.
Responsibilities:
- Under direction ensure that the activities of this program and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.
- Prepare meals for clients.
- May plan monthly/weekly menus and submit to dietitian/program director for review and approval.
- May purchase food and dietary supplies.
- May submit food/dietary receipts/invoices to the director or designated representative as appropriate.
- Supervise kitchen, dining room, and food storage areas as to cleanliness and sanitation, including all food preparation equipment.
- Supervise clients/volunteers assisting in these area activities where necessary.
- May update related documents, such as dietary handbooks, nutrition literature, database demographics, food surveys, etc., as needed.
- May complete/review client food surveys including assessment with each new client.
- Meet weekly or as scheduled with dietitian/supervisor.
- Attend all meetings as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Travel throughout service area may be required for transporting food from food bank;
- Must be able to stand throughout the course of the day. Must be able to walk, bend, climb, reach, navigate stairs on a frequent basis at work site for stocking shelves, lifting, cooking, clean up, and maintaining a safe environment;
- Reading, writing and finger dexterity to manage data entry, forms/documents, computer, food labels, and recipes required on a frequent basis;
- Tasks require visual perception and discernment for examining food condition, cooking, lifting, and cleaning up on constant basis;
- Measuring/assembling of ingredients at close distance to eye on an frequent basis;
- Eye hand coordination for chopping food, and moving hot items on an occasional basis;
- Repetitive hand motions, and grasping on a constant basis for transporting, lifting, cooking, and clean up;
- Hearing, talking, on a constant basis for communication with clients, volunteers, co-workers, taking direction from supervisor;
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs unassisted on a frequent basis for cooking, cleaning up, stocking shelves, moving kitchen appliances, pots and pans; up to 60 lbs on an occasional basis;
Requirements:
- Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School Diploma or equivalent and one to three years related professional experience.
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire if driving is warranted.
- Experience in food handling and preparation, kitchen management, and menu planning. Knowledge of recognized methods and skills in provision of good nutrition desired.
- Ability to monitor allocated food budget.
- Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be able to form good working and therapeutic relationships.
- Good working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software preferred.
- Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License and are subject to a Moving Vehicle Report (MVR) check through the Department of Motor Vehicles annually if driving is warranted. Any MVR grade of “unacceptable” is not permitted to operate a personal vehicle on behalf of Catholic Charities.
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license and have reliable means of transportation.
- Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
