POSITION TITLE Pastoral Assistant for Music - Full Time, Exempt
REPORTS TO: Pastor
I. POSITION PURPOSE
- Provides music for parish liturgies and other designated celebrations, at the direction of the pastor and in keeping with the mission of the parishes.
Ii. Major Duties And Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the pastor, staff, and consultative bodies in implementing the mission of the parish.
- Coordinates and implements the parish music program according to the authentic celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Selects music for all Sundays, Solemnities, special feasts of the Roman and Parish calendar, weddings, funerals, and other parish celebrations at the direction of the pastor.
- Oversees and directs all choirs as delegated by the pastor. Recruits, trains, and supports parish ministers of music, including the Cantor/leaders of song, musicians, and choral groups. Schedules practices and assures that accompanists and music are available. Serves as choirmaster, organist and/or accompanist as needed.
- Creates weekly digital music planner, including the actual music, and participation aids for the assembly as needed to encourage full, active, and conscious participation.
- Serves as staff representative to parish consultative bodies as directed by the pastor.
- Collaborates with the parish staff and volunteers to ensure all music areas are neat, tidy and organized.
- Provides assistance for parishioners needing music for weddings and funerals. Develops and maintains resource list for organists, soloists, and other musicians available to perform at these functions.
- Attends all weekend Masses, Solemnities and other special feasts of the Roman and Parish calendars, unless otherwise noted. Assistance at daily Mass, special parish events and other celebrations at the discretion of the pastor. In absentia (as approved), ensures the dignified execution of music for these liturgies.
- Prepares and administers the Music budget in collaboration with the parish administration.
- Ensures appropriate copyright permissions, use fees and licenses have been obtained for all material used in the music program
- Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for the ministry. This is accomplished by reading appropriate materials and attending workshops and conventions. The Music Coordinator also participates in regional, Archdiocesan and National Professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
- High School Diploma with BA preferred.
- Verifiable experience in parish leadership and group collaboration.
- Leads a life consistent with the Catholic faith and moral teaching.
- Demonstrated vocal proficiency and keyboard ability.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrated experience effectively leading diverse groups of people.
- Demonstrated organization presentation, teamwork, technical and time management skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
