Position Title: Coordinator of Youth Ministry
Location: St. Peter the Apostle Church-Libertytown
Reports To: Pastor
Essential Functions:
Youth Ministry
• Program leadership: Lead and direct all aspects of the parish's youth ministry and sacramental preparation for grade 6 through 12, including planning, evaluation, development, implementation and ongoing support consistent with pastor's guidance and AOB requirements.
o Establish regular program focused on evangelizing the youth through regular evening fellowship & faith formation gatherings, service projects and missions, and retreats and youth conferences.
o Provide a RCIT (Rite of Christian Initiation of Teen) program
o Recruit, grow, nurture, and form a team of deeply committed adults (CORE team) to serve, and form relationships and journey with the youth.
o Identify, draw-in, and guide inspired youth into servant leadership of student-run ministries, growth into CORE team members (post high school), and youth ministry internships
• Outreach & Collaboration:
o Regularly engage parents to encourage active support and reinforcement of youth ministry efforts. Support and express sincere pastoral concern for parents in times of need.
o Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the Parish Staff, Parish Council and parish families.
o Keep pastor, staff and Pastoral Council informed of ministry activities and needs. Provide information as needed for administrative reports. Coordinate youth ministry annual plans with parish staff and Pastor.
o Collaborate with other St Peter's organizations to incorporate youth in all aspects of parish life. Attend and support parish functions
o Network and maintain professional relationships with peer youth ministers and staff of the Office of Family, Youth, and Young Adult Ministry (AOB), taking advantage of opportunities and offerings to enrich St Peter's youth ministry.
Personal Growth and Development
• Continue personal spiritual growth through frequent reception of the sacraments, scriptural study, and an active prayer life. Daily Mass and annual spiritual retreats are highly encouraged.
• Grow professionally through self-study and attending professional development events hosted by the Baltimore Archdiocese and other professional catechetical and youth ministry organizations.
Required Education and Experience:
• Must relate well with and have a passion for ministering to youth
• Excellent planning, organizational, collaborative, and communication skills required.
• Must be a practicing Catholic who models Gospel values and is committed to Catholic Church teachings and mission.
• Proven ability to work well with professional staff and volunteers
• Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education or a related field preferred.
