Position Description
Job Title: Maintenance Coordinator
Job Status: Part-Time; Temporary position
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Reporting Functions: Reports to the Principal
Job Function: Oversee and manage seasonal maintenance staff as well as contracted services. Schedule and perform a variety of services that include the cleaning and maintenance of the interior of the school building and grounds. This includes but is not limited to, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and removal of garbage on a regular basis. Also, minor plumbing and electrical work, and general upkeep of the school grounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the daily/routine maintenance needs of the school building and grounds. This includes but is not limited to: removing all trash from premises daily; supervising the maintenance company responsible for cleaning all bathrooms on a daily basis; cleaning windows in all building doors; vacuuming carpets in all entranceways; vacuuming faculty and social rooms; sweeping and sanitizing of cafeteria each day between/after lunch periods.
- Coordinate on behalf of the Principal, in coordination with the Pastor to ensure that the school grounds are maintained as needed. This includes: mowing the grass, watering, and edging of the lawns, weeding, pruning, and raking on a seasonal basis, and working with a lawn care contractor.
- During the summer season, over see contractors to perform all necessary electrical, cable, plumbing, and construction work for the school; obtain outside vendor bids, as necessary, for a job proposal and proceed after receiving budgetary approval.
- Oversee HVAC contractors to maintain and inspect air handlers, boilers, air conditioning and heating systems, water circulation pumps, air exhaust fans, cafeteria equipment, and emergency generators. Ensure that school boilers are cleaned during the off-season.
- Maintain all school-owned equipment and vehicles; this includes obtaining necessary repairs and inspections.
- Oversee Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression Contractors to maintain the school fire alarm system and fire extinguishers; oversee Telephonic contractor to maintain intercom and public address systems; set up and maintain the school phone system.
- Coordinate seasonal summer maintenance workers; oversee any work performed on the school during the summer months. This includes necessary repairs and/or any painting to the school's interior as deemed by the Principal.
- Provide access and assistance to contracted workers and vendors; arrange for yearly inspections of the school including insurance and fire; arrange for semi-annual asbestos inspections; monitor radon levels within the building. All contracted work must be approved by the Principal.
- Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies; supply purchase requests to the principal for all cleaning products and supplies; oversee the maintenance of the school janitorial closet.
- Be available for consultation with the Pastor(s) regarding buildings and grounds maintenance of the Church campus which encompasses the School Property, Log and submit timesheets delineating hours worked for Parish during the work day. Seek prior approval from the Principal utilizing the Parish Work form for proper tracking and credit of duties performed for evaluation.
- Hold weekly meetings with the Principal to review monthly and weekly duties and budgeted purchase requisitions.
- Be "on call" for unexpected events that may include alarm soundings, fire alarms, false alarms and the need to open the school for special events with the Principal's approval.
- Any additional duties that may be assigned by the Principal or Pastor(s) of the school.
Educational Requirements:
- At least 10 years experience in the maintenance field; preferably in an elementary school setting.

- Due to the nature and mission of the Catholic Church, all employees are bound to exhibit respect for the teachings and discipline of the Church regarding matters of faith and morals.
- Must exhibit a high degree of integrity, loyalty, and dependability and have a strong work ethic.
- Must have knowledge of grounds and buildings, tools, and equipment operations and possess the ability to perform repairs to minor equipment.
- The ability to work independently and perform competently and timely in all areas of responsibility.
- Must be physically capable of lifting weight up to 100 lbs. Must be physically capable of bending, stretching, pivoting, and going up and down ladders and flights of steps on a frequent basis.
- Must be able to be "on call" for any emergencies including snow and ice removal and must be able to perform tasks in every kind of weather condition.
- Must be able to work with all staff members, co-workers, and contractors in a professional manner.
- Must be self-motivated and prompt in performing tasks.
- Must have a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
- Must maintain all necessary equipment operation certifications necessary to maintain and utilize that equipment.
Physical Demands: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability appropriate for necessary mobility to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; repetitive movements such as stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing (ladders etc.), reaching and twisting; frequent use of tools; will regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderately heavy objects and occasionally objects over 100 pounds; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, and gripping with hands and fingers; ability to operate equipment.
Working Conditions: Elementary school setting, indoor and outdoor work; part-time, temporary position. 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. May be required to work outside of normal school hours to complete tasks and attend meetings; must be on-call for emergencies.
