SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting either refugee or immigrant families with transitioning their children into the public school system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Introduces, explains, and provides resources to new families utilizing public schools for the first time.
Will provided educative workshops for parents of refugee students
Initiates outreach to adults in the refugee or immigrant communities.
Engage parents to become effective allies and advocates for their children's education
Educates and promotes cross cultural understanding and integration into the community and school system.
Provide diversity training for public-school teachers, administrators, and affiliates in the Greater Richmond area
Facilitate and connect students to individualized tutoring, mentorship and academic counseling services
Assists with the recruitment, training and monitoring of tutors for students in academic need
Maintain accurate records and complete reports in a timely fashion.
Represents the Agency in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.
Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
Utilizes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent required with three years of related experience. Candidates who speak Dari, Pashto, Farsi (Persian), Hindi, Nepali, Swahili, Kirundi, Kinyarwandan, Urdu, Arabic, Spanish, French, Ukrainian are strongly preferred.
