SUMMARY: The Benefits Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting the Benefits Director in administering the various benefit programs offered to the 3,500+ current benefit eligible employees of the 400+ locations that participate in the Archdiocese of Boston Benefit Plans. Benefit plans for current employees include medical, prescription, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, and 401(k). The Benefits Operations Specialist also oversees the administration of several voluntary benefit programs for the Pastoral Center and related locations, including FSA, supplemental life insurance, and a vision plan. This position is also responsible for assisting with the administration of a frozen defined benefit pension plan. The position is primarily on-site at the Pastoral Center in Braintree.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Organize and execute the annual open enrollment process for medical and dental plans.
Manage data-intensive projects for recurring tasks (such as annual notice mailings), communication initiatives, and Pension Plan periodic lump sum offerings, using Excel, multiple databases, and other information sources.
Oversee administration of supplemental benefits for Pastoral Center and other relevant locations, including enrollment changes and annual open enrollment.
Oversee Medicare Primary Payer program, including ongoing enrollments and communications with vendors, business managers, and participants.
Assist with audits for benefit plans other than 401(k).
Oversee in-house continuation of coverage administration for medical and dental plans.
Oversee bulk mailings to employees and family members as needed.
Oversee monthly self-billing for life, LTD, and stop loss coverage.
Assist with ongoing data scrubs and tactical changes in process or communications as needed. Oversee Benefits website, including coordination of updated postings and changing landing page language as needed with benefit changes/seasonal needs, etc.
Conduct benefits orientations for non-incardinated priests and lay employees.
Attend regional business manager meetings as needed.
Respond to inbound calls and emails from employees and location administrators regarding medical and dental coverage issues and coordinate with vendors as necessary.
Other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field. PHR or SPHR a plus.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Strong Microsoft skills, particularly in Excel and Word.
Experience with online payroll and benefit enrollment systems a plus.
2+ years of benefit plan administration and HCM experience, or equivalent experience in a multi-faceted role.
HIPAA compliance training preferred.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, sometimes with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritize, work efficiently, and transition from task to task while maintaining focus.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to troubleshoot issues.
Experience in handling and producing confidential information.
Ability to work independently.
Willingness to support the mission of the Catholic Church. The ability to work comfortably with priests and religious sisters is greatly desired.

PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE ELEMENTS:

Ability to use a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours/day.
Ability to sit for up to 8 hours/day.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
Ability to communicate by phone on a regular basis.
