Job Duties and Responsibilities
St. John Paul II Academy - Middle Level is seeking a Custodian. The Custodian will report to the school Principal and/or Athletic Director and is responsible for cleaning school facilities, managing/ordering cleaning supplies and upkeep of equipment. Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities
to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic church
- Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Cleans offices, classrooms and all other assigned areas daily
- Cleans and maintains restroom facilities and water fountains daily according to appropriate health regulations
- Cleans gym and locker rooms as assigned by Athletic Director
- Removes trash from building for disposal, complying with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
- Maintains inventory of required custodial supplies
- Moves furniture, supplies and other materials as required
- Honors and adheres to the code and directives of the Parochial Sports League of the Diocese of Corpus Christi
- Attends in-services, workshops, and other school/parish events as instructed by the Principal and/or Athletic Director
- Performs other duties as instructed by the Principal and/or Athletic Director
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for the position include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year experience in custodial work, preferably in a school environment
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift objects and handle hazardous materials
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds or more
- May be exposed to warm/cold temperatures, unpleasant substances and odors
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Must submit to employment required screenings including a criminal history background, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to Diocesan policies and procedures

- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage duties effectively and tactfully
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
