Duties and Responsibilities
St. John Paul II High School is seeking a part-time Custodian. The Custodian will report to the school Principal and/or Facilities Manager, and is responsible for cleaning school facilities, managing and ordering cleaning supplies, and the upkeep of equipment. The list of duties below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the
job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.
Duties:
- Cleans offices, classrooms and all other assigned areas daily
- Cleans and maintains restroom facilities and water fountains daily according to appropriate health regulations
- Removes trash from building for disposal, complying with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
- Maintains inventory of required custodial supplies
- Moves furniture, supplies and other materials as required
- Attends in-services, workshops, and other school/parish events as instructed by the Principal
- Performs other duties as instructed by the Principal and/or Facilities Manager

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for the position include:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year experience in custodial work, preferably in a school environment
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift objects and handle hazardous materials
- May be exposed to warm/cold temperatures, unpleasant substances and odors
- Must be able to life 15 pounds or more
- Must be 21 years of age or older
Additional Requirements:
- Must submit to employment required screenings including a criminal history background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to Diocesan policies and procedures
Special knowledge and skills include:
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage duties effectively and tactfully
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
