Position Summary
The Director of the Baron Wellness Center will lead a team of licensed mental health clinicians and graduate student interns, guiding them in the provision of evidence-based counseling services and educational initiatives on campus. This aligns with Catholic moral principles, fostering an authentic understanding of the human person with vision, direction, supervision for staff, operations, use of facilities, budgets, policies, and initiatives. Additionally, the director collaborates with various internal and external stakeholders and supports the broader Student Life vision of forming students, through lives of charity and ongoing conversion, to lead and to evangelize each other and the world.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction for counseling services and wellness initiatives; set and achieve short- and long-term goals that foster the University’s culture and charisms, advancing institutional priorities; serve as the University resource for legal issues and best practices related to student mental health and counseling services. Develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with Residence Life, Office of Student Success, Campus Sexual Assault Response Team, Behavioral Assessment Team, M.A. Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Athletics, local health providers and resources, other university departments/administration.
- Oversee and administer counseling services in accord with Catholic moral principles, University policies and procedures, licensing and professional standards and ethics, and governmental regulations including HIPAA, FERPA, and Title IX; establish and enforce policies and procedures. Additionally, create and offer group counseling options for the Fall & Spring semesters.
- Select, train, and supervise counseling staff (licensed counselors and social workers); review and assign new counseling cases to staff and interns; select, train, and supervise student counseling interns, organize flex schedule among staff.
- Provide mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and consultations for students, including in crisis/emergency situations; provide occasional consultation and referrals for university employees. Manage clinical documentation software (currently TheraNest); manage department within allocated operating budget; identify and manage risks associated with counseling services. Also, coordinate on call staff schedule.
- Coordinate an interdepartmental committee to administer yearly notifications on alcohol/drug education/policy, a biennial alcohol and drug survey, biennial report to maintain compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act/EDGAR Section 86.
- Coordinate regular program of student and employee education and training on wellness topics including student mental health and crisis intervention, alcohol and other drug use prevention, overall wellness, and Title IX for confidential reporters.

Technical Skills
- The art and science of providing evidence/based outpatient counseling to university-aged students, including in areas of crisis management and student suicidality
- Clinical supervision in counseling skills
- Ability to create and present trainings for university students and employees on health- and wellness-based topics from a Catholic perspective
- Ability to provide consultation to priests/religious, faculty, and staff on matters relating to student health and wellness
- Ability to manage a clinical documentation software-database for counseling services
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

Education & Experience
- PhD, PsyD, MSW, MA Counseling or other appropriate clinical mental health-related graduate degree required
- 5 years experience as a licensed counselor, preferably in a college or university setting
- 3 years of progressively responsible leadership and supervisory experience, preferably in a college or university setting
- Demonstrated ability to manage a complex organization and budget
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of Catholic teaching on the dignity of the human person and human sexuality; ability to articulate this teaching and translate it into general policies and specific situations
- Demonstrated ability to manage mental health crises and high-conflict situations
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid license in current state to practice counseling independently and supervise other clinicians providing psychotherapy; able to obtain Ohio license within six months
Workplace Factors
- Some evenings and weekends required
- Occasional travel required
- On call after work hours and on weekends for mental health crises
