ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POSITION AT ST. THOMAS MORE SCHOOL
St. Thomas More Catholic School in South Kansas City is seeking a creative, organized, and
energetic educator for the Assistant Principal position for the 2024-2025 School Year. The
Assistant Principal fulfills the mission of the Catholic Church by supporting and upholding the
philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school. The Assistant Principal is
responsible for the overall operation of the school when the principal is not present. The
Assistant Principal is responsible to report to the principal in the areas of specific
responsibilities.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
• Gives evidence of lived Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community
and being open to the importance of personal faith journey; strives to model the teaching
of Jesus by attitude and example.
• Helps build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in
and plan school religious and service activities.
• Establishes a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive
self-image: sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior
effectively.
• Assists the principal in the general operation of the school
• Carries out the discipline system as described in Student and Faculty Handbooks
• Assists the principal in updates for the student handbook
• Is responsible for fire, tornado, and safety drills
• Works with the principal in the areas of classroom visitation and the evaluation of
teachers
• Prepares twice-weekly message to parents regarding upcoming school activities
• Assists the office staff to prepare all materials for student enrollment, and compiles
enrollment data in preparation for scheduling
• Builds the school’s master schedule
• Prepares quarterly honor roll list and certificates
• Arranges individual student/teacher conferences as needed
• Confers with parents concerning their child(ren)’s discipline problems
• Notifies parents of irregular attendance patterns by email
• Assists the principal with the preparation and coordination of the school calendar
• Assists in the supervision of the school’s physical facilities
• Coaches and models research-based teaching methods for teachers and staff
• Interviews prospective teachers and staff members
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
• Maintains a functional and pleasant learning environment.
• Cooperates with school and diocesan administration; works effectively with all staff
members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
• Demonstrates professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and
regulations.
• Maintains confidentiality of information, displays sound judgment in dress and general
behavior.
• The position is full time and is based upon a 40-hour work week.
Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited university.
• A valid teaching certificate.
• Ability to utilize technology for instruction and learning.
• Familiarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is an asset.
• Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred, but not required.
