The Intern-in-Service program is a ten-month campus ministry initiative geared towards recent college graduates who seek to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually and to support the mission of the CSC. Key aspects of the program:
Formation: Our goal is to develop self-aware, professional leaders who are ready to live the gospel through monthly group formation meetings, one-on-ones with a staff supervisor, spiritual direction, and designated time each week for spiritual and personal growth.
Service: To give of oneself is the definition of this Internship. Interns give their time and energy to serve the students at Washington University and provide an example for the students of what it means to be a Christian servant leader.
Community: The internship provides an intentional living community through housing and an emphasis on prayer, bonding, and program planning.
Leadership: Interns are the role models to the students they serve. Professional formation throughout the year will cultivate strength and awareness in areas in need of development. Ongoing training and a team environment are crucial to the transition into professional careers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Welcome all students, providing a hospitable presence both on the Washington University campus and at the CSC.
Help students connect life and faith in tangible ways, and empower student leaders to take an active role in their faith.
Assist with liturgies, programming, and assigned responsibilities.
Lead or participate in established programming, including 1) Service and Social Justice (faith mission), 2) Evangelization and Education (faith formation), 3) Outreach (building community and relationships), and 4) Administrative and Communications (event planning and publicity).
Participate in regular formation meetings with our pastoral team and supervisor. The goal is to provide discernment in an intern's life journey and help individuals become active participants in parish life and moral leaders in their careers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Live in community.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Strong sense of faith and a willingness to represent the Catholic Church as a minister.
Ability to challenge students to grow socially, spiritually, intellectually, and morally, and to offer constructive feedback.
Ability to work with all backgrounds, cultures, and levels of faith/religion.
Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.
Scheduling flexibility that allows working almost every Sunday, several evenings every week, and occasional Saturdays and holidays.
Intermediate computer and technology proficiency including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google platform, and social media.
Valid driver's license.
Compensation (Benefits)
Housing and Food are provided at the Herring Intern House.
Modest monthly stipend to assist with personal expenses.
Funding for retreat and/or other formational experiences.
Hiring Timeline
Applications, inclusive of noted requirements, are accepted until June 1, 2025. The internship will start on August 1, 2025, and end on May 31, 2026.

Our goal, when selecting ministry interns for the Catholic Student Center, is to match individuals with their preferred areas of interest within the intern-in-service program. As our needs allow, individuals will then be aligned to this area of focus during their period of service.

Coordination of local service opportunities and assistance with the planning of our service trips. Education of students specific to Catholic Social Teaching and key social justice issues that are relevant to the campus, St. Louis, and the world.
_____ Internship Focus: Evangelization & Education - Faith Formation
Coordination of programs that increase our student's faith IQ and help form them into disciples of Christ through programs such as Bible Study, RCIA, and small faith-sharing groups. Articulation of personal faith and the faith of the Catholic Church in ways that are relevant to student's lives.
_____ Internship Focus: Outreach - Community and Relationships
Building community for our students at the CSC and on campus through programs and faith-filled relationships. Initiating encounters with new and returning students in a variety of contexts. Inviting students into a relationship with community and God.
_____ Internship Focus: Administrative & Communications - Event Planning and Publicity
Providing support for CSC programs, including publicity, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, logistical support, and event execution.
