Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
The school nurse performs a variety of health-related activities and procedures for students. This health care is
necessary to provide services to meet the health and physical needs of all students including those with
exceptional needs in accordance with State Law and diocesan policy. Clerical duties will include all necessary
forms and reports relating to the school health program. The school nurse will also work and collaborate with
diocesan school nurses as needed. The school nurse will complete state-mandated student screenings and data
collection. The school nurse will report to the school administration.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum requirements: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Two years of nursing experience,
preferably working with children. Preferably experiences involving public contact in a school setting.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Currently licensed by the State of Missouri as a Registered Nurse (RN). Possess a current First Aid and
Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
? Maintains an accurate updated list of students requiring medication on a regular basis and administers
medication as prescribed by the student’s physician.
? Performs routine first aid procedures.
? Provides specialized health care for students with health care needs.
? Maintain all student health records to ensure all requirements for students are met.
? Provides mandated student screening with follow up care and data collection.
? Maintains an accurate, updated list of all students with health needs.
? Ensures that the school’s health and safety regulations are followed.
? Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
? CPR and First Aid procedures
? Signs and symptoms of childhood and/or adolescent illnesses.
? Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
? Telephone techniques/etiquette.
? Good computer skills using Google, Word, Excel, and computer charting software.
ABILITY TO:
? Provide First Aid to ill or injured students.
? Recognize abnormal health characteristics.
? Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
? Plan and organize work.
? Maintain confidentiality with work duties and responsibilities with students, staff, parents, and members
of the community.
? Understand and follow oral and written directions.
? Meet timelines and work schedules.
? Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
? Read, interpret, and follow regulations, policies, and procedures.
? Deal tactfully and courteously with students, parents, and staff.
? Work cooperatively with others.
? Provide accurate data for student health records and reports.
