Brief Job Description: St. John’s is currently seeking a Music Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate would be passionate, innovative, and qualified to work as a Music Teacher, and would work collaboratively with our administration, faculty and staff, becoming an integral part of our SJS team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Experience with teaching Music courses to students, grades PK – 8.
• Evidence of superior knowledge of content and performance standards, as related to chorus, rehearsal techniques, vocal lessons, music literature and programming, music theory/classroom music, and the ability to effectively implement them into the music program.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students at a variety of ability levels and to contribute toward the growth of an exemplary music / arts program.
• Demonstrated proficiency of piano and vocal skills
• A desire to create a positive educational environment that is flexible, student-centered, and allows students to learn, grow and promote success for students of all abilities.
• Willingness to work as a member of a team
• Incorporating differentiated instruction in planning a lesson/unit of instruction
• Evidence of effective communication skills, both written and oral
• Effective interpersonal skills with students, faculty, support staff, and parents
• Demonstrated evidence of a knowledge of NYS Learning Standards for the Arts / Music
• Demonstrated evidence of exceptional effective classroom management skills, including the ability to motivate students of varying skill levels and effectively maintain discipline in very large groups.
• Knowledge of technology and its application in the classroom
• Proficiency in modifying curriculum to meet the needs of special education students with IEPs and building-based learning plans
• Demonstrated a strong work ethic and attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to reflect and contemplate on one’s teaching – allowing for growth and excellence
• Willingness to contribute within and outside the department for school community and extracurricular events (school musical, weekly masses, Christmas and Spring concerts, advisor, chaperone, club, etc.).
Qualifications: Required Education/Experience:
• A valid New York State teaching certificate Music Education, preferred but not required.
• Teaching experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music / Music Education
• VIRTUS certified and background checked
Desired Skills:
• Knowledge of Google Classroom and other technology platforms
• Strong classroom management skills
• Organized, friendly
• Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and students
