Middle School Coordinator, May 2025
The Middle School Religion Coordinator encompasses three in one ministry roles (middle school coordinator, young adult & OCIT program) middle school is responsible for the EDGE program serving the 6th-8th grade youth of the parish – Young Adult ministry provides leadership and support to the young adults of the parish in the continued development of their faith-life, the beliefs and teachings of the church while promoting stewardship, prayer and active participation as members of our faith community. While the OCIT program serves 6th-12th grade youth who seek to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Reports to the Pastor, Director of Operations, and Director of Formation
Exempt, Full-Time
Flexible schedule to allow for middle school, youth, and young adult activities
Maintain office hours
General Responsibilities
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings in order to facilitate collaboration, discuss objectives, evaluate ongoing progress, and inform participants about communications strategies, tools and technology, and media relations
- Work within budgetary constraints
- Work collaboratively with Finance Director in preparing annual budgets
- Participate in professional development workshops, classes, and organizations
- Work collaboratively with the Formation Team
- Assist with Formation-wide and Parish-wide events
Primary Responsibilities – EDGE
- Weekly/Bi-weekly contact with families and core members
- Prepare annual calendar of events
- Schedule with Parish Office
- Review Fort Mill District & Mecklenburg school calendar
- Provide and prepare event activities
- Purchase supplies
- Work with the kitchen coordinator to provide refreshments/meals
- Solicit food donations, Sign-up Genius
- Organize and maintain EDGE closet
- Communication to update the parish
- Provide for social media outreach in conjunction with the Communication and Digital Media Coordinator
- Upcoming events
- Event follow-up
- Work collaboratively and effectively with volunteers, core members and parents
- Diocese of Charleston Youth Guidelines
- Review Diocesan curriculum for EDGE program
- Schedule Diocesan Safe Touch Class, August/September
- Complete Diocesan Insurance forms and submit to Youth Ministry Office
- Planning Summer Activities
- Spiritual/faith related events such as Bible study evenings or daily Mass and breakfast gatherings
- Fun/social events such as Yucky Olympics, movie nights, etc.
- Recruit and train Core Members
- Recruit volunteers for the ministry
- Core team training in early August and ongoing support
- Ensure all Core Members and volunteers maintain all safe environment requirements through Virtus
- Provide for registration opportunities
- Plan bus trips
- Secure transportation
- Signed release forms by parent or guardian
- Planning Fall, Winter, and Spring Activities
- Collaborate with the Formation Director to implement programs for 6th– 8th grade youth
- Plan annual curriculum; EDGE nights, retreats, meal calendar
- Assist in the coordination of the 5:30pm Teen Mass
Primary Responsibilities – Young Adult Coordinator
- Support and grow the young adult ministry in conjunction with the Formation Director
- Recruit and train leaders to do the following if not ———————–
- Plan calendar (year-round) with approximately 2-3 events per month
- As necessary, print study resources and materials for members
- Plan events – who, what, where, when, necessary supplies
- Discussion nights
- Social events
- Volunteer opportunities
- Spiritual events
- Marketing
- Creating flyers, promotional tools for the Young Adult Ministry itself
- Putting together bulletin announcements for Young Adult Ministry on a weekly basis
- Create the social graphics/media/marketing for events
- Communicating with young adults
- Emailing about events
- Communicate via emails, Flock note, GroupMe, bulletin
- Maintain social media for the ministry
- Constantly promote the ministry through various means – fliers, bulletin, social media, Mass announcements
- Personally invite young adults to the ministry
- Evangelize by building relationships with young adults
- Get the young adults involved in the greater parish and liturgical ministries
OCIT Coordinator
- Recruit and train catechists
- Primary catechist and substitute catechist
- Ensure catechists maintain all safe environment requirements through Virtus
- Prepare semester calendar
- Schedule with Parish Office
- Review Fort Mill District & Mecklenburg school calendar
- Classes, first Reconciliation dates, and first Communion Mass
- Consult and confirm with Pastor about these dates
- Provide and prepare event activities
- Purchase supplies
- Curriculum (digital and physical copies) to catechists
- Handouts for teens and catechists
- Communication to update the parish
- Email parents
- Advertise in bulletin
- Work collaboratively and effectively with catechists and parents
Key Requirements
- Be passionate about youth ministry, particularly to our middle school youth, and desire fruitfulness of the ministry
- Be familiar and have an understanding with the Catholic Church’s vision, teachings, structure and policies
- Understands, accepts in writing, and adheres to the policies set forth in the Diocesan Employee Manual, the Diocesan Policy Regarding, Confidentiality and Abiding by Catholic Principles, Philip Neri social media Policyand such other documents required by the Diocese of Charleston and St. Philip Neri
- Support of parish’s goals, policies, and programs, with a strong commitment to the parish mission, Diocese of Charleston, and the Catholic Church
- Satisfactory completion of safe environment training
- Must have a clear understanding of acceptable business practices and ability to maintain confidentiality of church business and act with integrity at all times
- At all times, act with integrity, maintain confidentiality and possess a clear understanding of acceptable business practices
- Must be courteous, respectful and diplomatic with all staff members, volunteers and parishioners
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with staff members, volunteers, parishioners and visitors to the parish office, with these skills also necessary when conducting business with vendors and contractors
- Ability to work effectively as a team including but not limited to, all staff members, volunteers and parishioners
- Ability to work productively without daily supervision, and exercise discretion and independent judgment
Key Competencies
- Strong Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with the Pastor, Deacons, co-worker, youth and parents
- Strong desire and ability to work in ministry with youth

Physical Requirements
