The Director of Music Ministry (DMM) is responsible for the effective preparation, coordination, performance, and leadership of music within the liturgical celebrations of the two parishes (St. Joseph, Corydon and St. Mary, Lanesville) and the school. The DMM is both a pastoral minister who possesses a vision of how best to accompany the faithful and help them embrace their role of singing as part of full, conscious, and active participation in the sacred liturgy; and a professional who holds specialized credentials in music and has a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy.
The DMM manages all responsibilities and duties of the music ministry office, including but not limited to liturgical music planning and coordination for all weekend Masses, Holy Day Masses, and special liturgical celebrations, such as weddings, funerals, and liturgies with the school. The DMM trains cantors, psalmists, and instrumentalists in their roles and oversees all Mass choirs/bands and their rehearsals. The DMM teaches sacred music classes for St. Joseph Catholic School one day per week during the school year, primarily to prepare the students for worship in song and chant. The DMM oversees the music ministry budget, administers music copyrighting and reporting requirements, and attends regular staff and liturgical committee meetings. The DMM possesses excellent interpersonal skills, exhibiting an ability to work well with supervision, parish and school staff, compensated and non-compensated music ministers, and outside
vendors.
