Position : Maintenance Assistant

Location : Immaculate Conception Catholic Church -Denton, TX
General Position Summary: Responsible for effective, efficient and safe maintenance and upkeep of parish buildings and grounds. Provide routine maintenance for the parish, school and grounds.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provides for the maintenance needs of the parish and school education buildings, rectory, church, and parish offices.
- Conducts periodic equipment maintenance checks for plumbing, electrical, drainage, irrigation and security systems.
- Arrangements for repairs as needed.
- Works in conjunction with ground workers and attendants to ensure the parish grounds are maintained in a safe and clean state including mowing, watering and edging lawns, ice and snow removal, blowing walkways, weeding, pruning and raking on a seasonal basis.
- Performs Janitorial and Attendant duties as necessary.
- Responsible for opening and securing buildings.
- In conjunction with their immediate supervisor, they establish and maintain a documents center for all drawings, plans and documentation associated with the entire facility. This information is updated with any changes/modifications made.
- Maintains current level of knowledge and skills required to perform the job.
- Maintains adequate inventory of maintenance, and operation supplies.
- Provides information and research to the Facilities and Maintenance staff as required and as available.
- Meets with inspectors and delivery personnel to give access as needed.
- Keep all lightbulbs and filters changed and record a complete maintenance schedule.
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Perform related duties based on location needs.

Working Conditions And/or Physical Requirements
- This position works in a typical office environment and on parish grounds, but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads.
- Ability to sit and perform computer work at times.
- Able to access and maintain centralized departmental files. Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels on shelves, and climbing up an attic ladder to access files.
- Ability to accept work interruptions while still remaining focused on duties.
- Data entry via computer keyboard that requires repetitive and frequent hand and wrist movements.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
Travel Requirements
- Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools.
Education And Experience Preferred
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
- Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate
- Demonstrated history of good judgement.
- Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
- Ability to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel.
- Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from the Pastor or supervisors in a timely manner.
- Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
- Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
- Good understanding of the English language both spoken and written. Spanish fluency is helpful, but not required.
- Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of backgrounds.
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
