Counselor/Learning Support Coordinator Position for St Anthony of Padua Catholic School
Position Summary:
- Work with teachers to implement classroom accommodation for students with diagnosed disabilities.
- Provide targeted interventions for students who need additional support based on MAP data.
- Ensure that accommodations are not only documented but also effectively put into practice to help all students succeed.
Essential Functions
- Learning Support and Documentation Management
- Provide direct support to students with diagnosed disabilities, ensuring they receive appropriate accommodation.
- Maintain and manage all required documentation, including service plans, accommodation records, and progress monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with policies related to student learning support, including those required by St. Anthony of Padua, the diocese, and external agencies.
- Liaison for IDEA Funding and Public School Collaboration
- Serve as the point of contact for securing and managing IDEA funding for students with disabilities.
- Coordinate with the local public school district to facilitate evaluations, services, and funding allocations.
- Advocate for students and ensure they receive all eligible resources through federal and state programs.
- Social-Emotional Counseling and Student Well-Being
- Provide one-on-one and small group counseling to address anxiety, depression, stress management, and other social-emotional needs.
- Implement school-wide initiatives to promote mental health and student resilience.
- Serve as a resource for faculty and parents in addressing student concerns.
- Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Implementation and Teacher Guidance
- Lead the MTSS framework in collaboration with the Title I teacher to provide tiered interventions for students struggling academically or behaviorally.
- Facilitate student support team meetings, data review, and intervention planning.
- Monitor progress and adjust interventions to ensure student success.
- Provide professional development and coaching for teachers on best practices for differentiated instruction and classroom accommodations.
Reports to: Principal
General Responsibilities:
- Address the needs of students with diagnosed disabilities, ensuring compliance and proper support.
- Provide mental health and social-emotional counseling.
- Coordinate special education services.
- Oversight of the MTSS process.
- Provide teacher training and guidance, ensuring that faculty are equipped to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Improve student success by providing targeted learning support and mental health services.
- Increase efficiency in IDEA funding management, ensuring students receive all available resources.
- Strengthen collaboration between teachers, families, and external agencies, leading to more effective student interventions.
- Empower teachers with the tools and strategies they need to implement accommodations and differentiated instruction successfully.
- Enhance St. Anthony of Padua’s ability to retain and support students with diverse needs, reinforcing its mission to provide a high-quality, inclusive Catholic education.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in counseling, educational psychology, special education, or a related filed.
- Specialized knowledge in student support and intervention strategies.
- Meet state of SC counseling license or certification or certification in special education or a related are.
- Prior experience in teaching, counseling, or student support roles.
- Proficiency in communication, collaboration, and data analysis.
- Knowledge of laws and policies related to education and student, such and IDEA (Individuals With Disabilities Act)
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
Specialized Training:
- Training in such areas as Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), learning disabilities, or behavioral interventions.
- Familiarity with assistive technology or learning management systems.
