QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a Catholic in good standing, who is authentically interested in Christ, faithful to the Magisterium, has a deep love of children, possesses a teacher's heart, is interested in joining a learning and teaching community of like-minded, prayerful, poet-scholars, is excited by and interested in classical schooling, and has the ability to teach with wonder, rigor, curiosity, virtue, and joy. The candidate should be professional, organized, timely, and collaborative.
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree with a strong catholic and liberal arts core. The appropriate Alabama teacher certification for the position is required, but may be pursued upon employment. In addition to teaching experience in general, highly beneficial traits include:
• A degree, course work, or knowledge of elementary education and childhood development;
• Experience both learning and teaching in classical educational settings, including homeschool;
• A master's degree or graduate study in education, the liberal arts, or other job-related fields;
• Experience or training in teaching English as a Second Language.
PRIMARY DUTIES
• Managing a classical classroom;
• Teaching reading, writing, grammar, mathematics, nature study, history, and religious catechesis;
• guiding students to develop the intellectual habits of curiosity, attentiveness, orderliness, and joy in truth;
• Exemplifying and forming students in the moral and theological virtues;
• Leading students to walk with God through religious catechesis, sacramental formation, habits of prayer, and community life in Christ;
• Entering wholeheartedly into the school and parish calendar of life-its liturgy, cultural events, joys, sorrows, and needs.
Assessment, record-keeping, communication with parents and administration, collaboration with teachers, and pursuing continuing education in classical pedagogy and educational certification all form a part of the secondary duties in this position.
