Director, Office of Family Life and Youth Ministries
Responsibilities: The Director of Family Life and Youth Ministries in the Diocese of Camden promotes a comprehensive approach to family and youth ministries in the diocese and its parishes in keeping with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Framework for Marriage and Family Life and the documents Called to Love and Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Youth Ministry. He or she has a familiarity with papal document on these matters as well as the Directory for Catechesis and the National Catechetical Directory. The director develops and maintains strong relationships with pastors and lay parish ministers; provides training, support, and resources across the spectrum of family life and youth ministries for pastors, parish youth and young adult ministers, college campus ministers, marriage preparation teams, marriage enrichment teams, and the variety of ministries that support family life from birth to death. The director is expected to accept speaking invitations within the diocese when appropriate. He or she serves as a resource for parishes in the recruitment, interview and selection of parish ministers responsible for youth, young adult and family life ministries. The director is willing and able to assist parishes in evaluating ministry programs, setting visions and implementing viable youth, young adult, and family ministry training, educational, and formational opportunities. He or she develops and oversees a diocesan youth advisory team and a second team for family ministries. He or she develops and oversees and maintains a comprehensive plan for college campus ministry throughout the diocese in collaboration with campus ministers. The director participates in meetings and works collaboratively with other departments, councils, commissions, organizations, pastors and parish staff; providing leadership as appropriate. He or she coordinates with other diocesan offices to promote youth, young adult, and family ministry, events, opportunities, and vocations awareness. He or she oversees the planning and coordination of diocesan, regional, national and international events for youth, young adults and families. He or she maintains active membership in national and regional ministry organizations for youth, young adult and family ministries. The director creates and maintains budgets for diocesan youth, young adult and family ministry events. He or she accept other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Practicing Roman Catholic; a Master’s Degree preferred (Bachelor’s Degree accepted) in theology, pastoral ministry, youth ministry or catechesis. Experience in diocesan or parish ministry is helpful. Understands, supports and articulates the Catholic Faith as taught by the Magisterium. Has a passion for ministry with youth, young adults, and families. Must have excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Must have the ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Must have the ability to relate with pastors, lay ministers, youth and young adults. This position requires energy, self-motivation and a willingness to travel throughout the diocese, including some overnight, weekend and evening work.
