OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
The Parish Director of Music Ministry is an administrator in support of the Pastor's responsibilities to the parish. The Director of Music Ministry serves the parish as principal organist and choir director, according to the highest standards established by this profession, with the goal of enhancing the sacred atmosphere of the Mass. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Pastor in his role as the principal liturgist of the parish.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides service playing for the regular parish liturgical celebrations, including weddings and funerals, with particular attention to accompanying the assembly
Trains and directs the parish choirs, cantors, and instrumental ensembles
Regularly meets with pastor to coordinate music selection for parish Masses and liturgical events taking place in the parish
Keeps up-to-date with current Catholic liturgical norms, both universal and local
Develops budget for liturgical music and is accountable for music expenditures
Follows Church and civil law regarding copyrights and copying music
Coordinates music for funeral Masses and weddings. Should be available to meet/speak with families and couples to give guidance in the selection of music for funeral and wedding liturgies
During authorized absences, ensures coverage at scheduled Masses with permission of pastor
Maintains the parish music library
Other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Must have a high degree of proficiency in playing the organ, as attested to by formal credentials and personal performance audition. Should have at least a bachelor's degree in music
Should have a working knowledge of other instruments which might be used for the provision of sacred music during liturgy
Must have demonstrated skill as an effective choral conductor
Must have knowledge of the Church's liturgical tradition and current liturgical practices
Salary Range: $35k-$50k, commensurate with education, experience, and level of expertise.
Hours Worked: 25hrs/week
