THE OPPORTUNITY
Our Lady Queen of Angels Housing Alliance (Queen of Angels Housing; QAH) is seeking a smart, energetic, and creative communications professional interested in meaningful work that helps others. This is an opportunity to help build a dynamic start-up organization that is working to help solve the region’s housing affordability crisis. The Communications & Fundraising Associate will take ownership of a variety of projects, supporting the Executive Director with communications, fundraising, and day-to-day operations of the organization.
OUR LADY QUEEN OF ANGELS HOUSING ALLIANCE
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) that builds affordable housing. Inspired by successful models in other cities and the mission to provide for those in need, local business, civic, and philanthropic leaders joined with the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles to found Queen of Angels Housing in 2023. Our mission is to foster wellness and dignity for all by providing stable, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions. Building on the Catholic Church’s long history of service, we collaborate with the Archdiocese and other Catholic institutions in the Los Angeles region to identify opportunities to transform underutilized property into housing that is affordable to those in need.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Executive Director to develop content for email newsletters and social media; write, format and distribute newsletters and posts.
- Provide other communications support, such as responding to community inquiries, maintaining electronic mailing lists, refining marketing materials and supporting coordination with third-party consultants.
- Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement a plan for building a donor network, including potential engagement with high-net worth and powerful individuals.
- Support the Executive Director in preparing grant applications and reports to funders, including responsibility for writing narratives.
- Provide other fundraising support, such as coordinating events, building and maintaining donor databases, researching potential funders and supporting coordination with third-party consultants.
- Engage with local Catholic parishes and other faith-based organizations to strengthen community relationships and promote outreach initiatives.
- Serve as a point of contact for community partners and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and welcoming environment.
- Assist with Board of Directors communications, including meeting scheduling, preparing agendas, and distributing materials.
- Lend support to the Director of Real Estate Development with funding applications, coordinating community engagement activities, and conducting research.
- Manage day-to-day operations of organization, including maintaining records and serving as point of contact with third-party vendors, such as insurance, IT, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of an associate’s degree.
- At least 4 years of experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is highly desirable and may substitute for up to two years of experience.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the Board of Directors, donors, and community members.
- A passion for the mission of providing affordable homes that offer all Angelenos stability and the opportunity to thrive.
- Previous experience in nonprofit fundraising or communications preferred.
- Familiarity with Catholic traditions and the administrative structure of a Catholic diocese helpful.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong administrative skills with experience supporting executive-level staff.
- Ability to anticipate tasks for implementing a project.
- Willingness to lend support wherever it is needed.
- Desire to learn and grow.
- Thorough knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office suite of software, in particular Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Competitive salary range - $55,000 - $65,000, depending on skills, knowledge, and experience - and robust benefits package, including:
