Duties and Responsibilities
- St. Elizabeth Catholic School in Alice, Texas, is seeking qualified teachers for the elementary campus. The Catholic school teacher forms the whole child, spiritually, intellectually, socially, morally, and physically in a Christ-centered environment. The teacher encourages and supports students to achieve maximum potential in spiritual and academic growth.
Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities:

- As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Develops in the students a knowledge of Catholic doctrine/tradition
- Provides service ministry opportunities
- Guides students in the preparation of Liturgies and paraliturgies
- Provides students the opportunity to participate in Catholic practices (Rosary, Stations of the Cross, Novenas, and May Crowning)
- Expresses love, concern and compassion for each child and recognizes each child is made in the image of God
- Provides opportunities for each child to cultivate a relationship with Jesus Christ
- Challenges each student to perform to the best of his/her ability within an environment of academic rigor
- Prepares each child for the next level of developmental skills leading to college and career readiness
- The teacher is active in the Catholic Faith Community; participates in parish-based ministries, and participates in activities for personal spiritual growth
- Manages student behavior and classroom environment for optimum teaching and learning
- Maintains a sound disciplinary program that provides direction and positive attitudes
- Shows consistency and fairness in the application of rules and consequences
- Treats each student with respect and understanding
- Establishes a climate of courtesy, order, and safety and consistency
- Demonstrates skills in planning lessons, instruction delivery, and student assessment; shows evidence of planning and preparing for classroom instruction; prepares to conduct class with lesson plans, materials, and equipment/technology
- Writes lesson plans incorporating Diocesan Curriculum Guides
- Selects varied activities and materials to provide active and successful participation of students
- Establishes routine in the handling of materials and equipment/technology
- Demonstrates proficiency in the implementation of technology as a teaching and learning tool
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of FACTS system management for lesson planning and grade reporting
- Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies in the delivery of instruction
- Begins instruction promptly to maximize academic learning time
- States objective(s) and communicates expectations
- Provides clear directions which are easily understood
- Checks for understanding and re-teaches as needed
- Provides immediate feedback
- Provides guided practice and assists when necessary
- Uses a variety of teaching techniques to ensure student participation including: Prevents/redirects off-task behavior; attends to students’ varying learning modalities, and differentiates instruction to ensure success of all students
- Facilitates full engagement of all students through hands-on learning and higher order thinking
- Employs student-centered teaching with discovery and exploration
- Evaluates student learning using varied evaluation techniques to assess students’ progress

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid state certification or the equivalent, as specified by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops’ Education Department and the Diocese of Corpus Christi. Non-Catholic teachers are required to have a knowledge of the Catholic faith and support the goals of Catholic tradition in education.
- Valid Texas driver's license
Additional Requirements:
- Submit to employment required screening including a criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
- Complete certification in Safe Environment Training by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
- Position requires adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures
