The guidance counselor will provide guidance and school-based counseling services for students' social-emotional well-being, learning, and faith development in kindergarten through eighth grade. The guidance counselor will communicate with parents on behalf of teachers and students, and offer counseling services within the context of Catholic education. The guidance counselor will participate in meetings, committees, and other professional activities as directed by the principal and assist teachers in acquiring necessary knowledge and insights regarding students' behavioral characteristics and educational needs. Duties Include:
Collaborate with the resource teacher on Student Assistance Plans
Collaborate with the school nurse/clinic for wellness practices and interventions
Work with teachers to provide support in the areas of social-emotional learning; mental health needs
Provide small group opportunities for students: such as social interactions (lunch bunch), anxiety, stress, conflict resolutions etc.
Participate in parent meetings as related to IEP/ISP meetings
Help classroom teachers through observations and assessments of students
Provide recommendations to teachers for classroom strategies, accommodations to address students' needs
Facilitate meetings with teachers and parents
Facilitate professional development for faculty and staff related to metal health etc.
Ideal candidate has:
Virginia state licensure or the ability to obtain VCEA certification
Experience in school counseling
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
