Position Summary:
The Sheridan Center for Classical Studies at Benedictine College seeks applicants to teach pedagogy-focused courses in Classical/Liberal Education for its master’s degrees in Classical Education. Successful applicants will be prepared to teach courses in K-12 classical instructional methods in a variety of subject areas, including reading, mathematics, science, geography and history, and Catholic religious instruction. At the same time, applicants should have a strong understanding of and appreciation for the integrated nature of a classical or liberal curriculum, including in particular the integration of Catholic faith across the curriculum.
The method of instruction for these courses will generally be online. Applicants seeking remote working options are welcome to apply. This position is non-tenure-track (NTT).
Additionally, the half-time professor of Classical education will assist the director of Graduate Studies in Classical education in supporting the Crilley Fellows. The Crilley Fellows is the Center’s teaching fellowship program, in which graduate students receive free tuition for teaching in classical schools.
All applicants should have significant experience teaching in a Classical or liberal arts school at the elementary and/or secondary level. Applicants should have at least a master’s degree in a relevant field, though a doctorate (or enrollment in a doctoral program) is preferred.
Experience teaching the Great Books of the Western canon, and experience with seminar-style teaching, is a plus.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teach five to eight credits a semester, for the Fall and Spring semesters.
Assist in the administration of the Center’s teaching fellow program, in which graduate students receive free tuition for teaching in classical schools.
Assist the Director of Graduate Programs in Classical Education in appropriate administrative work.
Collaborate with the Director of the Sheridan Center for Classical Studies in furthering the work of the Center, which is sponsoring this proposed master’s degree program.
Work with interested schools and districts to provide additional teacher formation in Classical education as the occasion arises.
Education
A master’s degree in a relevant field (either education, or the subject matters which one seeks to teach, or in an area related to liberal education) is required, along with teaching experience. A doctorate, or enrollment in a doctoral program, is preferred.
