Summary/Objective: Often times Nursing calls on individuals to accompany Sisters to medical emergencies or to be a presence during compassionate care at the end of life. This presence is so very important and offers essential support to Sisters often during their most vulnerable times. Due to the current reality of our aging population the needs for companionship are great. Under the direction of the Western Province Office of Healthcare & Retirement, the companion will provide presence to SCN?s as requested by nursing.
Essential Functions:
- Accompany SCN?s to the emergency room
- Provide presence during compassionate care/end of life care
- Provide presence during hospitalization
- Communicate information with SCN nursing staff
- Communicate any significant observation/issue or change in SCN to nursing staff at facility and SCN nursing staff
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information
- Follow established protocol for universal precautions and infection control
- Sit with SCN to provide comfort and safety.
- Other duties may be assigned.
