Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and qualified Special Education teacher to join St. Michael High School. This role involves collaborating with colleagues and families as well as fostering an inclusive classroom environment that helps students achieve their academic, social, and emotional goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Student Support
- Develop and deliver individualized instruction based on students' IEP goals and learning needs.
- Use evidence-based teaching strategies and accommodations to support diverse learners.
- Provide support in core academic subjects, life skills, and social-emotional development.
- Foster independence and self-advocacy skills in students.
Classroom and Behavior Management
- Create a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Implement behavior management strategies to address challenging behaviors and support positive outcomes.
- Collaborate with behavior specialists or counselors as needed.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and provide co-teaching support.
- Communicate regularly with families to discuss student progress, concerns, and successes.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and multidisciplinary team discussions.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field
- State certification in Special Education.
- Additional endorsements in specific areas (e.g., Autism, Learning Disabilities) are a plus.
Skills and Experience
- Strong understanding of special education laws, including IDEA and Section 504.
- Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
- Knowledge of assistive technologies and accommodations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to student success.
