Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Full Time Music Director.
Duties
- Planning liturgical music for all Masses, Holy Days, special liturgical celebrations, weddings and funerals, Holy Days and other Special Liturgies in collaboration with the pastor and the worship committee.
- Responsible for the comprehensive development, coordination, and oversight of liturgical music in the parish and maintaining an up to date music library.
- Establishing a schedule and leading rehearsals for the Adult and Children’s choirs.
- Scheduling the maintenance of musical instruments and equipment.
- Demonstrating integrity through a moral, upright lifestyle consistent with Catholic church teachings and customs.
Qualifications And Personal Attributes
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music, organ performance, or a related field is preferred, with relevant experience in Catholic church music ministry.
- The ability to read music and lead a choir and congregation, while providing accompaniment on pipe organ or piano.
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of and comfort with Catholic Church music literature in all forms and styles (traditional, contemporary, praise and worship) for congregation and choirs (adult and children.)
- Strong organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, parish committees, and volunteers.
- Understanding of, and willingness to support Catholic Church teaching, mission, and values
