The Adult Education and Workforce Development Division of Catholic Charities of Boston offers comprehensive, high-quality educational services to advance and accelerate the academic achievement of adult immigrant learners who face significant barriers in their search of viable career pathways and self-sufficiency. The Adult Education Centers offer multiple levels of ESOL instruction from beginning to advanced levels of language proficiency, the Healthcare Bridge ESOL Program, ESOL for Human Services, college and career readiness programming, Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide Training Programs, IT Training, with flexible schedules and distance learning options.
The Day Student Support Counselor at the Laboure Adult Education program provides initial response and referrals for students and assists students with applying for classes. They provide consistent and respectful services in-person and via telephone. This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week; The position is hybrid requiring 4 days on site in person, 1 day can be done remotely, hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide initial response and referrals
- Welcome visitors and provide consistent and respectful services in-person and over the telephone
- Assist students with applying for classes
- Facilitate intake and follow-up procedures
- Participate in staff development
- Enter student information into state and agency data systems
- Maintain students' records in agency reporting tools and students’ files
- Participate in weekly staff meetings
- Attend all internal and external meetings and trainings as required
- Comply with DESE required policies and regulations
- Support the program coordinator with testing
- Work with the career coach/advisor by providing information to students about other types of community programs to help resolve barriers
- Implement strategies for obtaining student feedback and incorporate data in new course offering and staff professional development.
- Work with the coordinator on following up with students that are missing classes
- Work is performed in an office and classroom environment including in person and phone meetings with students
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
- A minimum of 1 year experience in a similar environment
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills
- Technology skills - knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) required, Google Classroom and Zoom experience preferred
- Communication and problem solving
- Spanish speaker is required for this position
