The Facilities Manager is responsible for the coordination of maintenance work at the school. The facilities manager has the ability to perform skilled and semiskilled building maintenance, with knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical work. The position is responsible for general upkeep of the building and grounds; performs related work as required. In order to foster good communication and strong relationships with custodial staff, vendors, volunteers, students, parents, and school staff, the Facilities Manager is able to communicate in English and Spanish.
Status: Grade 4A, Exempt, 12 months. (12B)

- ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assures buildings and grounds are cleaned and maintained in a manner that provides a healthy, safe and attractive physical environment
- Ensures automated systems, such as HVAC, are active and scheduled
- Checks outside buildings for damage, litter and/or conditions of general deterioration.
- Directs contracted vendors (such as HVAC, electrician, plumbers, etc.) to ensure maintenance or repairs are performed according to contracts or agreements
- Supervises the Custodial Staff (hired or contracted) to ensure occupied areas are cleaned appropriately
- Communicates with the landscaping vendors to ensure landscaping is maintained
- Works with school management and the facilities committee – contributing to overall maintenance and repair plans and strategies. Provide input on maintenance and scheduling needs, especially activities that could save money, make us safer, or make us more efficient
- Performs minor maintenance when needed
- Performs plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other repair work on the facilities when needed
- Performs minor construction, basic mechanical maintenance and implements preventative maintenance scheduled on buildings and equipment
- Paint and repair walls, repairs various types of furniture, doors, windows, floors, gates, roofs, ceilings and sidewalks as needed
- Prepares for events and activities coordinating with faculty and staff, according to calendar requests
- Reads and understands school blueprints, sketches, diagrams and other instruction/directive materials
- Orders, and stores all supplies needed for maintenance and repairs
- Picks up supplies and parts from vendors as needed
- Works with the Director of Finance to establish and manage the maintenance department budget
- Researches and obtains bids from vendors related to required repairs and maintenance
- Maintain a list of vendors as needed for contracted services, such as landscape, HVAC maintenance, electrician, plumber, and pest control; assures work is done to specifications
- Performs any other job-related tasks as assigned by the Director of Finance or the Principal
- REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Excellent communication skills - must be bilingual (in English and Spanish)
- Working knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and practices involved in building and grounds maintenance and repair, including, but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and painting
- Working knowledge of building codes
- Working knowledge of safe work practices
- Ability to maintain a cooperative attitude and effective working relationship with vendors, volunteers, parents, students, faculty and staff. Ability to work with others utilizing effective interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to supervise and train other maintenance staff – hired or contracted
- Ability to move and use ladders, lifts, scaffolds and other related equipment
- High School Diploma required; preference given for Associates Degree or Trade School Graduate
- 5+ years of experience – construction trades or facilities maintenance
- Able to lift 50 pounds or more
- Stamina to sit, stand and perform strenuous tasks
- Must possess a strong desire to serve
- Safe environment training
- Valid AZ drivers’ license
