Assistant Superintendent of Schools

Summary: The Assistant Superintendent of Schools is the major leader for curriculum development and excellence in the Catholic Schools. With the leadership of the Director of Education/Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent accomplishes the tasks and responsibilities outlined in this job description.

Director of Curriculum and Assessment

Assures the full implementation of New York State Learning Standards.
Directs standardized and NYS assessment programs.
Reviews curriculum, instructional practices, assessment procedures, and technology and offers guidelines and directives for their improvement.
Assures maximum participation of diocesan schools in the benefits of all federal and state funded programs and represents the Department of Catholic Schools in dealing with state and federal agencies.
Coordinates the use and distribution of Title II A Funds.
Convenes and chairs the Diocesan Curriculum Committee.
Coordinates diocesan-wide professional development conferences, including Superintendent’s Day.
Coordinates new teacher orientation and mentoring program.
Provides monthly mentoring meetings with new principals.
Prepares and disseminates appropriate and required reports to various agencies and provides requested information to other diocesan departments.
Disseminates information on new programs and when feasible coordinates contracts for schools such as School Reach, My Student Progress, World Book, etc.
Gives direction to the integration of technology into the curriculum and school management.
Coordinates the correction of state tests and the storing of state test results with NERIC Testing and NERIC Data Warehouse.
Analyzes and maintain NYS testing grades 3-12 records by school and diocese as compared to local districts and state.
Gives direction to primary testing and coordinates cognitive abilities testing.
Coordinates school and office applications for telecommunication discount.

School Visitation

Visits schools on a regular basis to assure that the instruction program is reflective of comprehensive planning, active differentiated strategies and formative and summative assessment and verify that appropriate administrative procedures are followed in regard to the supervision/evaluation of teachers and the maintenance of school records.
Provides written reports of all visits to the principal and pastor or Education Council President with copies to the Superintendent.

Communication

Keeps the schools informed concerning new directives, educational trends, policies, and procedures.
Communicates with the Superintendent and Vicar of Catholic Education as needed.
Establishes contacts with State and BOCES offices regarding curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Actively participates with the Inter-Diocesan Curriculum Committee.

Qualifications

Master's degree in education with concentration in curriculum and assessment.
Certification as a School District Administrator is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $53,818.00 - $66,415.00 per year
